Making Animated Videos with Biteable
Instructional designers are using videos in many creative ways. Lucky for you, making animated videos couldn’t be easier with Biteable.
We invited Star Peterson to be a guest trainer as part of our Accelerated ID series to show us all how to effectively use Biteable. Watch the episode below.
Making Animated Videos for Instructional Design Projects
Video development is a skill that not all instructional designers have. So, if you’re still thinking about what kind of instructional designer you want to be, consider making animated videos! Not all instructional designers can develop their own videos. But, it’s a skill that can help you stand out for competitive instructional design jobs.
How to Use Animated Video in Instructional Design Projects
Making animated videos can add value to various instructional design projects. Here are just a few ideas for using animated videos to improve your instructional design projects.
- Explainer or how-to videos
- Capture attention during lesson introductions
- Show conversations (think about the compliance trainings common in human resources)
- Break up large chunks of text in a PowerPoint or Articulate Rise course
- Summarize content without losing learner focus in a lesson conclusion
Making Animated Videos for Your Instructional Design Portfolio
If you’re not ready to begin making animated videos in instructional design projects for a job, don’t worry! Learning to create animated videos is a skill you can add to your instructional design resume. It’s also a great skill to show off in your instructional design portfolio.
Here are a few ways you can incorporate the videos you make in your instructional design portfolio:
- Promote yourself as an instructional design candidate with a video resume
- Advertise your business as a freelance instructional designer
- Show off what you learn about making animated videos with a short explainer video sample
- Embed an animated video in an eLearning sample to add value and show your skills
Tips for Using Biteable
We love using Biteable for making animated videos because the application offers a free membership level. This is something that other applications don’t provide, so it’s a great way to get some practice at no extra cost.
Here are a few of my favorite tips for using Biteable. You’ll see all these tips in action if you watch this episode of Accelerated Instructional Design.
Tip Number 1: Use a Template
Biteable offers a variety of templates, which is convenient if you don’t want to do a lot of customization. It makes the video development process quick and easy!
Tip Number 2: Customize the Video Colors and Text
Many of Biteable’s templates allow you to customize the video colors to match your (or your client’s) brand. If this is a necessity for you, check before you choose a template!
Tip Number 3: Practice, then Purchase
Since Biteable is free, you can practice as long as you like with no added cost. The downside to the free membership is that your videos will export with a watermark. One solution is to create your best videos using the free membership, then purchase a one-month subscription and export your videos, watermark free!
Tip Number 4: Include Biteable in Your Budget
If you do end up suggesting making animated videos with Biteable for a client project, include the membership cost in your budget! The client or your department will cover the membership cost for the project’s duration.
